Research Abstract |
1. Specification of GCPs In Edo city, 300 GCPs were set as reference points which have not moved along history, for instance, temples, shrines, parts of castles and so on. 2. Confirmation of Utility and Limit of Geometric Correction Applying TIN-model We proposed a method for geometric correction of historical maps in which TIN-model and Affine transformation were employed. We also compared among the proposed method, polynomial transformation and a method in which TIN-model and polynomial transformation were employed. 3. Confirmation of Functions Required in Computer System for Analysis of Historical Maps Surveying researches in city planning, civil engineering and so on, we confirmed the functions required in computer system for analysis of historical maps. 4. Making of Land Use Map Employing the proposed method, we corrected the Tempo-Edo-Ezu (1843) geometrically. And then we transformed the land use of the map such as temples, shrines, residences of feudal lords to polygons. Finally, we made the land use map at that time. 5. Demonstration of the Significance of Computer System for Analysis of Historical Maps Transforming the corrected historical map geometrically to vector data, we can analyze historical maps quantitatively. Using topological data at present, we can analyze the relation between land use and topology. We employed the functions compiled in 3., and then analyzed the corrected historical map in 4. quantitatively. The contents of the analysis were as follows : (1) analysis of cross sections of main streets ; (2) analysis of relation between land use and topology ; (3) analysis of view. Furthermore, using the CG techniques, we made the bird's-eye view of Tempo-Edo-Ezu.
