Research Abstract |
I carried out research on Japanese ancient narrative "NIHON-RYOIKI (*****)" which written by KYOKAI (**) who was a Buddist priest in YAKUSIJI-TENPLE (***). "NIHON-RYOIKI" was written in the KONlN (**) period (810-823A.D.). It was written in Chinese writing (**), so it was difficult to read correctly. The purpose of this research is to make a explanatory note on this book. Therefore I visited some libraries and examined its various manuscripts. In consequence I revised its text and made the critical edition. Then I annoted it and last year I published "NIHON-RYOIKI" in three volimes by Chikuma-Syobo (****). I provided this book with detailed index this year. By my annotation , I think many people can read this classic more easily. Besides I pubulised "The Development of Literary Expression in Ancient Japan (********)" by University of Tokyo Press (*******) last year. In this book, I made use of some result of this research. At the same time, I made a research on a shamanism in Okinawa (**). I made sure of the similarity of its religious style to ancient Japanese. Next year I am going to research the case in Amami (**).
