)During the whole period(April 1997 to March 1999), R.Clausius's approximately 500 equations from his series of 16 papers on the mechanical theory of heat are being compiled and printed out as the second edition database with the cooperation of Ms Rika Tadokoro.
(Note that the first edition was published with her cooperation by the support of the same kind of grant from the Ministry of Education in 1989.)
)W.Thomsons's mathematical approach to heat and thermodynamics has been studied with Mr.llayashi ; Yagi's coworker.
)J.Fourier's influence on the development of heat and thermodynamics is made clear in both cases of Clausius and R.Thomson by Yagi with the cooperation of Mr.Hayashi.
)Collcting and analizing Clausius's manuscripts at the archive section of the Deutsches Museum Bibliothek in the summer of 1997, Clausius's strong attitude toward the first and second laws of thermodynamics as a set equation was recognized.
)Having analyzed experimental figure tables connected with S.Carnot's funcion C(function of temperature) among papersby E.Chapeyron, Clausius, and W.Thonison, their mutual relations through these figures were found out.
)Organized a conference on the history of heat and thermodynamics on July 4th, 1998. Useful discussions and conclusions were obtained. 9 participants attended including Dr. Ben Narsden from UK.A photo is included within this report.
)Yagi and Tadokoro sent a joint paper, "Studies of the history of thermodynamics through a database", to the editor of the Historia Scientiarum, the journal of History of Science Society of Japan, in November, 1998.
