1. The recovery from the earthquake damage among the sport participants
(1)According to the data obtained from 281 sport participants in the Hanshin-Awaji earthquake area, the period in which the rate of practicing sports again became over 80% was in August 1995, i.e. after about six months from the earthquake. Especially there was a delay in tendency of coming back to such sport practice as baseball, soccer or tennis, played on the ground or the outdoor court.
(2)Even after three years from the earthquake, the sport participants who played at the same frequency as formerly were 65% of 824 subjects in the earthquake area.
2.The situation of physical education and extracurricular sport activities in the school after the earthquake
A questionaire survey about it was conducted to 590 physical education teachers in the earthquake area. The main results are as follows :
(1)36% of them trided their teaching in the space of their school without the damage. The respective 5-10% of them used the public facilities, the parks. or the river basin.
(2)As the teaching materials, 1/4 of them taught by mini-games with the ball with which a large number of pupils can play all together in the small space, very often. Next to it, gymnastics, fitness exercises, tags and physical recreation games, followed.
(3)In the extracurricular activities the interscholatic sport exchange helped to compensate the shortage of the training place.
