We have investigated the following seven problems (1) Description of the linear structure of a Japanese Sentence (2) Difference of the direct utterance and the indirect utterance (3) Presupposition of the indirect utterance (4) Reasons why implications arise from an indirect utterance (5) Back-channels towards the performative of an indirect utterance (6) Relationship of the indirect utterance and the common sense people have (7) Position of the indirect utterance in teaching Japanese as a second language
