Research Abstract |
This project is intended to investigate effects of industrial waste that is called Amang and known as by-product material including radioactive elements from tin mines in Malaysia and may cause trouble in human risk of inhabitants nearby. For precise measurement of the material we have developed a highly sensitive Ge-NaI anti-coincidence gamma-ray measurement system. By means of this, we have measure the radio-activities of Amang and, in addition, environmental radiation intensities of inhabit area and wide area of Malay Peninsula, I.e. along a route of Butterworth-Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur-Johor Bahru. The environmental radiation from rocks sampled in Tokushima has been also measured and compared with the Amang intensities to discuss the effects to human risks. Although the radioactivity of Amang has been observed to be rather high, the irradiation due to deposited Amang may not be so large. For the next stage, it should be studied elution of radioactive substances to environment (such as water, soil, and so on).
