We had some findings as follows, and most items in this project have been studying now.
(1) Measurement of three dimensional velocity profile in mixing vessel
The velocity profile in the mixing vessel over the range from laminar to transitional flow has been measured in the vessel filledwith siliconoil liquidwhichhas minimum reflective index. This dataare available when you simulate a velocity profile in mixing vessel, because they have high accuracy. Then we have succeeded in making an animation of mixing process by using the particle trace method.
(2) Development of turbulent model and simulation method of reaction in mixing vessel
We have developed a model of polymerization process. The reaction process is divided into the each time zone based on the value of bulk viscosity. This is sufficient to reproduce the experimental results excellently. A turbulent model is now modifying for level-up.
(3) Data analysis of reaction experiment for establishing scale up theory
When the energy spectrum function (ESF) is considered to be a representative expression of the turbulent flow mechanism, ESF becomes the main criterion for scale-up. We are studying the relationship between ESF and the size of stirred vessel and to clarify the effect of kinematic energy on ESF for Newtonian fluid.
(4) Measurement of power consumption for establishing standard design method of mixing vessel
We have gotten the correlation of power consumption for paddle and pitched paddle impellers. In addition, the correlation of power consumption for wire-gauze impeller with aeration was proposed.
We produced the CD-ROM of the data base on a number of research papers for mixing vessel.
