Research Abstract |
The groundwater behavior around underground dam is monitored by the experimental device developed in this research project. In an experiment, the ground with a declined basement of Acryl board is modeled by using fine glass beads. The surface of the experimental device is a transparent Acryl which allows us to observe the groundwater profile in a vertical two-dimensional section. Inflow at the upper boundary is controlled so as to be constant and the water level is kept constant at the lower boundary. An experiment of seepage flow around the underground dam is carried out by the above device and the profile of groundwater flow is observed with a high-speed video. Monitored record on the video is analyzed by the image processing system developed in this research project to obtain detailed information on the transfer of groundwater. The distribution of groundwater level within the underground dam basin is evaluated by the Kriging technique on the work station in the system of the current research project. Trap-door experiment using aluminum rods, on the other hand, is performed and the video record is also analyzed through the same system to obtain the displacement profile and the change of voids.
