Research Abstract |
By using manganese peroxidase produced by ligninolytic basidiomycete, guaiacol was polymerized to produce methanol insoluble products. IR and NMR analysis of the polyguaiacol, it was found that polyguaiacol contained ether linkages besides biphenyl linkage, with less content of hydroxyl moiety. MULDI-TOF-MS analysis showed that basic unit of the polymer was guaiacol and the weight average molecular weight was around 1200 with the highest Mw was 3200. Thermal analysis indicated that the polymer did not have clear melting and grassification points. Acrylamide also polymerized to give the polymer, polyacryl amide. NMR analysis showed that configuration of the polymer was atactic. Laccase produced by Coriolus vericolor and Pycnoporus coccineus was also found to produce gels from fenolic compounds. This reaction was found to proceed in aqueous acetone. Wood meal of birch was liquefied by using phenol medium. This product showed the similar characteristics with those of phenol resin such as Novolak which meets to JIS.
