We are researching on the computer network application in the field of plastic surgery for clinical, research and educational use. The medical application of the network becomes popular, and its usefulness is widely accepted. However, the content admitted it is actually useful is very few. Our research is based on the works which have done before individually. Our aim is constructing a system that is actually useful by connecting the works on the web site of the network.
The system, which we are constructing, is composed of the following content:
1. Application in clinical (to patient)
1a. Tele-medicine, tele-clinic system in network: We will make medical consultations by the transmission of e-mails, images and movies, and tele-clinic using videoconference system. After consideration of the privacy problems, the generally common questions and answers are opened to the public on the web site.
1b. Multimedia text for patient in network: We will make the multimedia text to explain the disease
and the operation methods in the field of plastic surgery.
2. Application in research (Application to doctor and researcher)
2a. Surgical simulation system in network: We will make the surgical simulation system in network, which is on the remote graphic workstation, and can be used through the web browser. Moreover, we will connect the stereo lithographic modeling maker in the network and order the models based on the surgical simulation result.
2b. Offer of research information by network: We will make archives concerning the papers of the conferences and articles. Moreover, research information about plastic surgery, computer-aided surgery and laser lithography model are ***lected and opened to the public on the internet.
3. Application in education (to student and resident)
3a. Multimedia text for student and resident in network: We will make an interactive 3D CG text about the anatomy of the skin flaps, and the operation procedure of cleft lip and palate, to understand the 3-dimensional structures of them.
3b. Offer of material and information concerning education by network: We will make the archive of the content of the lecture for student. Less
