Research Abstract |
This framework for analyzing intercultural communication was created and tested in three cultures, the U.S., China, and Japan. It consists of four dimensions : attitudes, motivation, interaction, and satisfaction. Next, three issues regarding methodological problems in intercultural communication were considered. First, research problems in conducting intercultural self-disclosure studies. Second, some issues relating to communication behavior and ingroups. And third, some viewpoints and methods recommended for research. Research resulting from these considerations was conducted twice to find out ingroup behaviors and interpersonal communication rules in four areas of human relations : opposite-sex friends, parent-child, friends, and brother/sister, all across three cultures, Results reveal cultural differences in commitment among ingroups and in communication rules.
