Research Abstract |
We did a research to develop the new theory and the measurement equipment to analyze the viscosity and a flow characteristic of the Newtonian fluid and the non- Newtonian fluid that contains liquid of minute particle's being suspended. We established measurement theory in the previous year and we measured a characteristic of the flow of some non-Newtonian fluids with the correct measurement. In this year, we planed to establish the principle and way to automate measurements, and we had another purpose which makes it possible to design and manufacture the small size rheometer. The small size rheometer with 10-mm column diameter and 20-cm column height was designed and manufactured. The sample capacity of the new rheometer was 1/8 compared with the size of rheometer created in the previous year. The automatic measurement system was developed, which measures the relation between shear velocity and Shear stress by taking the information of terminal velocity of the needle obtained by the two magnetic sensors into a computer. Moreover, we made it possible to distinguish between the different flow characteristic, I.e. Newtonian fluid, pseudo-plastic fluid, dilatant fluid, Bingham fluid and non-Bingham fluid and to fix the kind of fluid automatically and to make the flow characteristic chart. The viscosity and flow characteristic of CWS (Coal and Water Slurry) was measured using the small size rheometer. The rheometer created here was possible to measure correctly the flow characteristic of CWS. The rheometer can be applied to the quality control of the chemical plant. Moreover, it was shown that the rheometer could be used as the in-line-type viscometer incorporated into the manufacturing equipment pipeline of the chemical plant to measure continuously the viscosity.
