硬X線撮像分光による天の川銀河の高エネルギー活動性の統一的解明

Research Abstract

本年度は、以下の4点について成果があった。1.「すざく」X線データの系統解析により、天の川銀河の熱的活動性の起源が、中心と銀河面で異なり、多成分を持つことを明らかにした。2.電波・ガンマ線と「すざく」X線の中性FeKα輝線データを組み合わせ、天の川銀河を満たす非熱的な高エネルギー宇宙線(光子を含む)の巨大分子雲との相互作用や、その加速源候補の調査を行った。3.「すざく」搭載X線CCDカメラXISを用いた新たな解析方法を開発し、系外活動銀河核から時間変動しない軟X線成分を発見した。上記の1-3の成果はいずれも査読付論文として受理・発行されている。特に1.の成果は重要であるため、詳細する。「すざく」が観測した天の川銀河の全データを系統解析し、銀河拡散X線における硫黄、アルゴン、カルシウムの高階電離イオンからの輝線強度の空間分布を世界で初めて得た。その結果、元素の電離温度が、鉄では銀河面より中心の方が高いのに対し、硫黄では逆に銀河面より中心の方が低いことを明らかにした。これは銀河拡散X線を放射する高温プラズマが鉄あるいは硫黄輝線を強く出す高温(～7千万K)と低温(～1千万K)の2成分からなり、それぞれの成分が中心と銀河面で異なる起源を持つことを強く示唆する、全く新しい観測事実である。また、4.次世代X線天文衛星ASTRO-Hに搭載予定の硬X線撮像検出器・軟ガンマ線検出器の地上試験・較正を行い、2015年の打ち上げに向け、計画を進めた。これはASTRO-Hを用いた将来の発展的研究につながる。
