Research Abstract |
We dealt with a historical event called "Eejanaika" for our subject of a multimedia database system for history research supports. Our system stores historical stories and materials concerning the event "Eejanaika," that happened in central Japan in 1867, triggered by a scattering of protecting charms of shrines. Clouds danced around with the refrain "Eejanaika," that means "who cares?" in Japanese, and some of them escalated into a state of chaos. The system provides the functions for extraction and classification of historical documents and overlook of classification results. The main subjects of our projects are as follows : 1. "Eejanaika" Database We collected and stored historical stories and materials concerning "Eejanaika", mainly on the cults of Ise and Akiba shrines. The database specifications are based on the methodology of history research. 2. User interface for history research supports We implemented a user interface that suffices the research subject and style of historians. To realize the user interface, we developed techniques for analyzing images, texts, and natural languages. 3. System integration and evaluation To show the effectiveness of our system, we verified a historical hypothesis by extracting articles from official documents of cities and towns. The historians appreciated the functions of the system that make their verifications clear and objective.
