Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to examine the aspects of a Japanese Dialect by the phonetic Transcription by Chinese Characters. Wu-Qi-Jing-Bu was edited by Weng guang-ping (***) in 1819. It quoted many Japanese words from the lost manuscript Hai-wai-qi-tan (****) and Dong-Yang-Ke-You-Lue (****). These words are transcribed by Chinese Characters, for example, **** "mountain", **** "water", and those transcription offers the key to an understanding of the pronunciation of the old Japanese dialect. We made a data base of Chinese Characters that transcribed of Japanese Syllables at the first year, analyzed it the next year, and made a field work of Nagasaki dialect at the last year.
