Research Abstract |
1. All the lines of the Pyramid texts are input completely, based on the Sathe's edition and supplemented by the Faulkner's one, transliterated from the hieroglyphics into the roman characters following a planned format, supplied with sufficient linguistic information 2, The system i.e. its format and processing procedures applied to construct the database is an expanded and ameliorated version of my older system. Because it is row applicable to such texts as the Pyramid texts being full of various difficulties: far-reaching graphic transfers, defective writing, variable spellings, letters bridging across two cards, lacunae, etc. Moreover, the system devised, tested and offered here needs lesser effort to input. 3. The database outputs on demand parallel texts in the phonological transcription in reconstructed phonological shape and in transliterated representation. It also generates a concordance with all the shapes and the references including both attested and reconstructed , ~ . 4 The database is also available to make explicit syntactic structures of each text when supplied with diacritical marks to represent syntactic categories, though in limited extent. The sample texts for that purpose are supplied separately from the database, for they may inevitably contain many options grammatically open. 5. The batch files and scripts are composed of module-like parts, and they are structured and made correlated each other as much as possible in order to be rewritten automatically. Which means that these programs are easy to harmonize one another whenever a bit of them is arranged or changed for an emendation or a better solution. As the result, their maintenance has become much easier. 6. I have made a batch file to illustrate where the Pyramid texts of the five kings have parallels and where they have to parallels or unique texts. 7. Parts of the results achieved in this project are made public on the World Wide Web.
