Research Abstract

The purpose of this research is to clarify experimentally and analytically such mutual actions that the effect of the change of heat and moisture environment in underground structure on the surrounding ground and the effect of heat and moisture environment in the surrounding ground on the internal environment in the basement.
Temperature and humidity in the underground space, surface condensation on the walls, temperature and moisture contents in the surrounding ground, outdoor temperature, humidity and solar radiation, the depth of water table and so on were measured during the term of project in the conditions which an 100W incandescent lamp was always lighted and the rate of air change was about 5 times in a basement. It was shown that moisture condensation of the envelope surface is occurred at the floor and the lower parts of the walls through spring and summer, and the average depth of water table is 4.2m and became to shallow after the large quantity of the maximum change of the variation was about 85cm. Numerical analysis of heat and moisture behavior of the underground space by couple heat and moisture transfer equations is performed using the annual experimental data. The numerical results are compared with the experimental results. The results show that the numerical results agree with the experimental results in terms with room temperature and humidity of the underground space and its surrounding ground. Therefore the analytical method is valid for thermal design and moisture proof design of underground spaces.
