| Research Abstract |
Gradual skull expansion method using distraction devices has been applied to the patients with craniosynostosis recently.
The purpose of this study is that to establish the adequate protocol of the expansion method.
In this study, 5 dogs were used for experimental model.
Expansion was performed at the rate of 1mm/day for 5 days. Specimens were obtained 10, 20, 30, 40, and 60 days after finishing the expansion.
Histological examinations showed that dura matter became thinner at 30 days without any tearing. Dura was repaired and got thick at 40 days. Ossification was observed at 40 days and slightly increased at 60 days.
The result shows expansion protocol of 1mm/day is safe and adequate one, even expansion could be repeated every one month due to complement of dura repair.
