Research Abstract

巨大分子雲(Giant Molecular Cloud:GMC)は銀河内分子雲の質量の90%を占め、かつ、大質量星(>10太陽質量を生成する領域である。大質量星はII型超新星爆発によって重元素を生成することから、宇宙の物質進化を研究するのに重要な対象である。我々は、未開の波長であるサブミリ波を観測するために富士山頂サブミリ波望遠鏡(口径1.2m)を設計・製作した。1998年より富士山頂にて本格運用を開始し、492GHzと345GHzの両偏波観測が可能である。
巨大分子雲をサブミリ波中性炭素原子線(CI:492GHz)とサブミリ波一酸化炭素分子線(CO J=3-2:345GHz)において広域観測し、巨大分子雲内の温度や密度構造などの物理状態の研究をおこなった。その結果、巨大分子雲Ml7領域では、光解離領域モデルの予想する描像(CII-CI・CO)とは異なり、紫外線源からCII・CO・CIのピーク強度が並んでいるという観測結果があきらかになりつつある。また、巨大分子雲Ml7では、CIと13COの分布も類似しているという結果も得られている。CI及びCOのサブミリ波広域観測をおこない、宇宙線の加速がおこなわれていると予想される超新星残骸と分子雲の相互作用の様子を明らかにした。
