Research Abstract

飼育下のチンパンジー、すなわち京大霊長類研究所の1群15個体(0-38歳)のチンパンジー・コミュニティーを対象にした認知と行動の研究をおこなった。とくに平成12年度以降に生まれた赤ん坊(0-4歳)とその母親が主対象である。そうしたコミュニティーを基盤とした認知研究として、以下の3つの研究をおこなった。第1に、とくに4歳となって母親から独立する時期の子どもを対象に、その知覚・認知・記憶などの機能の発達過程を解明し、おとなや老齢のそれと比較した。基本的に個体別のテスト場面での研究であり、コンピュータ自動制御の弁別課題(見本あわせ、系列学習、視覚探索、同異弁別などの課題)や、「参与観察法」による対面での認知発達検査の手法を使った。第2に、複数個体のあいだの相互作用に焦点をあてた社会的場面での研究をおこなった。「ツインブース」「プレイルーム」「放飼場ドーム」と呼ぶ複数個体同時に参加できる実験施設を用いて、インタラクションや伝播の過程をみた。トピックとしては、親子間での協力作業、チンパンジーとヒトの協力作業、道具使用と製作とその観察学習、トークン・エコノミーなど。このような場面において、とくに離乳期の母子では、勉強に疲れた子どもが母親の元へ逃げ込むことがしばしば観察された。その際に起こる授乳の頻度・時間の発達的変化や、母親の拒否行動や母子の葛藤などを明らかにした。また、共同・協力作業の生成を道具使用課題で分析した。第3に、日常場面における母子の個体間距離や毛づくろいや添い寝などの基礎資料を収集し、親子関係の発達的変化を明らかにした。以上の飼育下の研究との対照で、西アフリカ・ギニアのボッソウの野生チンパンジー・コミュニティーに焦点をあてて、親子関係や仲間関係や道具使用等の認知的行動の研究をおこなった。
