Research Abstract |
Our hypothesis concerning the unusual behavior of animals before the Hansin-Awaji Great Earthquake is to be the results from a tress response to unknown stimuli such as electromagnetic wave (EMW). However, the abnormal behavior has been never observed when the experimental animals of rates and beagles were exposed to several ranges of the EMW. On the other hand, two of six family dogs that have lived with their owners showed the abnormal behavior like barking and sniffing during the exposure of EMW. These results suggest: 1)the experimental animals such as rats and beagles have lost their natures to respond to abnormal changes of the EMW before an earthquake, i.e., to anticipate the coming earthquake. 2)some family dogs have still kept their natures to anticipate the coming earthquake genetically. Therefore, we have examined the genetic difference in between dogs that showed the unusual behavior and those that didn't. Unfortunately, there are only a few primers to enable the genetic analyses in dogs. In this study, we have completed the analysis of CRH gene, using the samples of dogs collected at Hyogo Prefecture where was the center of the shock in 1999, and found little possibility that the CRH gene is involved in the unusual behavior before earthquakes. Finally we have started to establish the collecting system of unusual behavior of family dogs in the whole country of Japan, using the handy phones of FOMA of NTT DoCoMo Co., Ltd, and now made a prototype system of the collecting data with the aids of NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu Co., Ltds. More than 50 owners of dogs and cats have now participated in this research project.
