| Research Abstract |
Since the foundation of People's Republic of China in 1949 until the total democratization of Taiwan in 1988, Hong Kong, which is situated between China and Taiwan, was the only "Public Sphere" that was free from the severe control by the state governments. There, original culture got matured with the economic development. On 1980's when" Hand Over" problem started to be serious, HK citizens had an eager desire for the forming of Hong Kong Identity, and then literature and films, which have close relationship each other, started to play important roles This research aimed to analyze the formation of Hong Kong Identity, the role that literature and films played in that formation, and the process of the appearance of the idea of "Hong Kong Literature".
Main results are as follows
(1) The Maturity of Hong Kong Literature and the formation of Hong Kong Identity : I mainly discussed 3 authors, Yesi by my essay "Foodscape, the fantasy of Hong Kong poet," Li Bihua or Lillian Li by my book of joint authorship Literature Hong Kong and Li Bihua and so on, Shi Shuqing by my introduction contained in my translation of her work, Victoria Club.
(2) The relationship between Hong Kong and Japanese films The relationship between Japanese and HK films : was discussed by my interview to a Japanese actor Takarada Akira and the chapter of HK films of my book How Chinese films depict and read the 100 years of China.
(3) The International conferences related to t (1) and (2) : I reported "Murakami Haruki in the east Asia" at the international conference at Hong Kong University and also reported "The golden age of Hong Kong films" and at the symposium held by The Japan Foundation.
