Research Abstract |
The behavior of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHD) films formed between a steel ball and glass disk under the fluctuating load is examined by means of the optical interferometry technique for performance improvement of machine element. The main results obtained are summarised as follows : The entrapment of the lubricating oil is caused by the squeeze motion. The oil in contact zone is moved at the average velocity of glass disk surface and steel ball surface. In the unloading stroke, the film thickness at the circumference of contact area is thin than in the case of the constant load condition of the same load. In the case of the flow velocity is fast, the fluctuation of the film thickness by loading and unloading is small.
