Research Abstract |
We examined the effecs of atypical antipsychotics on Fos-like immunoreactivity in the nucleus accumbens and dorsolateral striatum of rat brain, and compared with those of clozapine and haloperidol. Acute administration of blonanserin(AD-5423, 0.4 and 1 mg/kg), a novel 5-HT2 and D2 receptor antagonist, zotepine (5 and 10 mg/kg) produced significant increases in Fos-like immunoreactivity in the nucleus accumbens and dorsolateral striatum. Floropipamide (20 and 50 mg/kg) also produced significant increases in Fos-like immunoreactivity in the nucleus accumbens, but not in the dorsolateral striatum. Atypical index of blonanserin, zotepine and floropipamide were all positive like as clozapine. Especially, floropipamide showed high positive atypical index almost equal to that of clozapine. These results suggests that blonanserin, zotepine and floropipamide may have the atypical antipsychotic activities.
