Research Abstract |
Paraplegia is a serious complication after surgery for thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms. This study was designed to resolve the part of mechanism in ischemic preconditioning, especially "early protection", which was protective effect obtained soon after ischemic-reperfusion (IR) procedure with rabbit paraplegia models. 1. Relationship between IR procedure and protective effect of spinal cord- three minutes interval IR procedure, total 30 minutes, was significantly preserve motor function of limbs after 24 hours, compared with five minutes interval IR procedure. 2. Relationship between IR procedure and heat shock protein : although heat shock, protein 70 family was not determined in spinal cord soon after IR procedure, it was turned up in spinal cord after 24 to 48 hours. This phenomenon suggested HSP did not play a role in "early protection". 3. Effect of IR procedure (electrophysiologic study) : spinal cord with IR procedure was harvested, and perfused with oxygen-rich Ringer's solution after 30 minutes anoxic state. This specimen was electrical stimulated, and the amplitude and conduction time were measured. Both the amplitude and conduction time were enhanced compared with those from spinal cord without IR procedure, but not statistically significant. 4. Spinal protective effect of nicorandil : spinal cord with preoperative administration of nicorandil was significantly preserved electrical function, but spinal cord perfused with nicorandil added solution was not preserved its electrical function. This phenomenon suggested that nicorandil had similar effect with IR procedure.
