| Research Abstract |
The purpose of research was developed oral care to prevention of aspiration pneumonia among the patients with cerebrovascular diseases or the persons with severe multiple handicaps.
1. Evaluation of optimal time of mouth care on the basis of oral cavity bacterial number, and of subjective sense
The subjects were classified 3 groups. Oral care was effectively carried out at 10o'clock in the morning group, 15o'clock in the midday group and 19 o'clock in the night group. The number of Sheplococci spp. And Staphlococci spp. In the samples was quantitatively measured. These results showed that effect of mouth care is not influenced by the time when it is done, as far as it is effectively done once in a day, and suggested that in the subjects who can not perform oral care by themselves, and can not receive oral care service several times in a day. It is important to perform effective mouth care which removes completely dental plaque, once in a day, by caregivers.
2. Effects of oral care method improvements on nursing outcome and future challenges
The subjects comprised 31 persons with severe multiple handicaps who had been admitted to a ward for the handicapped, and because of their having difficulties in ensuring oral care due to disabilities such as dysphagia, they were subject to improvements in their oral care methods. A3-year comparison between a tube feeding group and oral feeding group demonstrated a decreasing tendency in both group with regard to days of fever, the number of drip infusions, and a 5%reduction in cost. The result of this study suggested that in view of the limitations brusing, a network system providing preventive measures.
