Research Abstract |
A model has been created to estimate regional evaporation without the information of soil moisture even in an grid and semi-arid region. To check the validity of the model, observed evaporation at a taiga forest in Siberia, at tundra region of Siberia, at Tibet, complex surface of Thailand, evaporation estimated by a catchment water balance in a selected watershed in the world that has the area of 200-300 kms^2 was compared against the model derived evaporation on annual basis. The result indicates a very good agreement. However, a further investigation with daily evaporation bas revealed that agreement is not always good. Thailand data gave a good result, while Siberia data and Mongolian data did not produce as good result. Thus in summary, a model is capable of estimating evaporation on a time scale longer than month, while on daily basis a success depends on a location and condition
