Research Abstract |
Sampling and measurement Collection of cinnabar from mines The cinnabar ore of 678 samples were gifted from Geological Museum of Geological Survey of Japan, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. Those ores were collected from almost of all Japanese mines in where a cinnabar was worked. Collection of cinnabar from ruins The ruins collecting the specimens were selected from old tomb of Royal family of Japan from the latter term of Yayoi era to Kofun era (A.D. 100 to 400). Measurement Powdered cinnabar was weighed. Aqua regia was added to the specimen and dissolved it. Contents of trace elements in the specimen were measured by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (ICP-AES) (ICPS-1000III, Shimadzu Co., Kyoto, Japan). Results Comparison of the contents of trace elements in cinnabar ores collected in same mines. For observation whether the contents in cinnabar were similar levels in one mice or not, we measured the contents in cinnabar ores recorded the collecting place in same mines. As the results, similar levels of trace elements in cinnabar were observed in the ores collected in same mines. Comparison of the contents of trace elements in cinnabar ores between mines Ores from four major mines, Yamato mine (Nara Prefecture), Niu mine (Mie Prefecture), Sui mine (Tokushima Prefecture), and Itomuka mine (Hokkaido Prefecture), excavated cinnabar were measured for comparing the contents of trace elements in cinnabar. As the results, there was difference the levels between the mines. It is thought that the difference depends on the components of ore. Comparison of the contents of trace elements in cinnabar between ruins When the contents in cinnabar collected from the ruins in Yamato area were measured, the cinnabars excavated either Yamato or Niu mines were used in the ruins. On the contrary, it is speculated that the cinnabar used in Wakasugi-Yama ruin in Tokushima was excavated from Sui mine.
