Research Abstract |
Although Fuji (notation characters in Shakuhachi tablature) represents fingering and blowing techniques, a set of Fuji used in each school is different among schools. These differences are an obstacle for the computer processing of the Shakuhachi tablature. In order to solve this problem, we reviewed some Shakuhachi schools and designed COMSO: COMmon representation language for Shakuhachi notation. Based on this COMSO, we have revised a Shakuhachi tablature information processing system. Beside of fundamental editing functions for Shakuhachi tablature, the system has many capabilities such as sound output simultaneous with Fuji and fingering indication, Fuji transformation among schools, tablature printing with several formats, a SMF file input/output which enables bilateral conversion from/into common music notation, and automatic page turning of a score during playing We distributed this system to who are interested in it, and received evaluation comments. Although many positive commnets such that it is useful to create Shakuhachi tablature, they have been longing for appearance of such a system, it is effective for learning or playing Shakuhachi music, could be obtained, some useful comments for more improvement have also received such that notation of duration must be the same as real Shakuhachi tablature. By introducting these requests, we will make further research to be commercially available
