Research Abstract |
1. Founding the Network for allograft tissue procurement We have found the Homograft Harvesting Network (HGHN) to promote the cardiovascular tissue donation and procurement. The network consisted of University of Tokyo, University of Hokkaido, University of Tohoku, Iwate Medical University, University of Akita, Saitama Medical University, University of Nagoya, Nihon Red Cross Blood Center. Each member established the procurement team with harvesting equipment within the Department, and encouraged local community to increase tissue donation. 2. Procurement and cryopreservation of the allograft tissues We collaborated with the skin banking system in Tokyo Metropolitan area to obtain tissue dono information. Over the 3 years we could obtain 37 donors in total. Before this research project, the average number of tissue donation had been only 6 per year. 3. Shipping and transplantation of the allograft tissues. We have used over 100 cryopreserved allograft tissues so far. Before this research project, the number of tissue usage was only 7. The research project dramatically promoted the clinical usage of cryopreserved tissue allografts. 4. Wet Lab To share the knowledge how to handle human cardiovascular tissue the Wet Lab was performed three times, where pig hearts were used to practise how to dissect and trim the cardiac valves.
