Outline of Annual Research Achievements

アメリカ合衆国ワシントン DC の近郊にある NASA ゴダード宇宙飛行センターに長期滞在し、中性子星の内部の高密度状態方程式の解明を主目的にし、2016年に国際宇宙ステーションへの設置をめざす NICER (The Neutron star Interior Composition ExploreR) プロジェクトに参加した。サイエンス検討に加え、X線集光系の基礎性能の研究やフライト品の有効面積や集光率の測定などを進めた。また、X線偏光の観測衛星計画 PRAXyS のサイエンス検討や、日本を中核にした次期X線天文衛星 ASTRO-H では、高エネルギー分解能での観測を見越した科学資料集 ASTRO-H CookBook の執筆・編集も進めた。
「すざく」衛星で観測した自転周期がきわめて長いX線パルサー 4U 1954+319 が、古典的なパルサー分類には当てはまらない新しい種族 Symbiotic X-ray Binary として、通常考えられるよりも磁場が強い可能性を指摘し(Enoto et al., Astrophysical Journal, 2014)、欧州での学会発表したり、理研の広報で紹介された。マグネター内部磁場を星の自由歳差運動から検出する論文や、ニュートリノとトロイダル磁場の相互作用を論じた論文に共著として参加した。
さらに、これまでに「すざく」衛星で蓄積したマグネター観測の成果をもとに、硬X線の撮像観測を実現した NuSTAR の第一期公募観測に応募し、80 ks の優先観測(Priority-A) が採択された。また、NASA ゴダード宇宙飛行センターに滞在しての研究中に NHK の取材を受け、BS の人気シリーズ「コズミックフロント」のうち「宇宙でイチバン!驚異の天体 最も熱く速い星」(2014年7月17日に放映)で研究を紹介された。
