Research Abstract |
Phase diagrams of biopolymer networks crosslinked by double helices are theoretically derived. The relationship between coil-to-helix transition and sol-gel transition is clarified. Molecular mechanism of network formation in helix-forming polymers is syudied on the basis of polymer solution theory and cascade theory of gelation. We found a new phase at low temperatures in which polymers are dimerized (pairing phase). Helix formation of polymers by hydrogen-bonded chiral molecules is theoretically studied and compared with recent experiments on carboxyphenyl acethylene in the mixture of amins and amino alcohols. Molecular mechanism of majority rule and sergeants-and-soldiers law is clarified. Amplification of helices by stretching such helical polymers is studied and a new method of optical resolution of racemic mixtures is proposed.
