Research Abstract |
1.THE EXCAVATION OF NIMA-OTSUKA-KOFUN, MABI-CHO, KIBI-GUN, OKAYAMA-KEN WAS FINISHED IN THIS GRANT TERM. WE IDENTIFIED A PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN STONE CHAMBER AND EXCAVATED A QUANTITY OF BURIAL GOODS. A PROJECTING PART AT THE SIDE OF THE KEYHOLE-SHAPED MOUND WAS CAREFULLY EXCAVATED AND THE TRACES OF CEREMONIAL ACTIVITIES WERE OBTAINED. AS A RESULT NIMA-OTSUKA-KOFUN IS THOUGHT TO BE A TYPICAL BURIAL MOUND IN THE MID-SIXTH CENTURY IN THIS REGION. A INTERIM REPORT WAS PUBLISHED AND THE FORMAL REPORT WILL BE PUBLISHED IN 2006. 2.TO EVALUATE NIMA-OTSUKA-KOFUN AND OTHER RELATED BURIAL MOUNDS, A PAPER ‘THE KIBI REGION AFTER THE "YURYAKU DYNASTY"' WAS PRESENTED IN A SYMPOSIUM ‘KIBI REGION OF THE "YURYAKU DYNASITY" HOLD BY THE SOCIETY OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL STUDIES IN DECEMBER 2003. THE DIFFERENCES OF THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE KIBI REGION IN THE "YURYAKU DYNASTY" BECAME APPARENT IN THIS SYMPOSIUM. THE RESULT OF THE SYMPOSIUM WILL BE PUBLISHED IN 2005. 3.DRILLING SURVEY OF THE SOIL TO RESTORE THE ENVIRONMENT OF NIMA-OTSUKA-KOFUN AND THE GIS ANALYSIS OF TOPOGRAPHY WERE CARRIED OUT. ON THE DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF POTTERY AND CLAY FIGURES, THE ORIGINAL POSITION OF EACH OBJECT WAS ESTIMATED WITH THE USE OF GIS. 4.THE PROGRESS OF EXCAVATIONS WAS PUBLISHED EVERYDAY ON THE WEB, ON SITE EXPLANATION OF THE EXCAVATION WAS CURRIED OUT IN EACH SEASON, AND A LECTURE WAS GIVEN FOR LOCAL AMATURES.
