Research Abstract |
How "nation states" were founded in modern East Asia, how, through that process, "Confucianism" as a traditional learning shared in the past was negated on one hand, and was reorganized, on the other, as a modem learning was elucidated from the viewpoint of embodiment of modem "nations (peoples)" and regeneration and mobilization of Confucianism, with intellectuals' discourse as material. e the common understanding on the issues among the fellow researchers who study East Asia. To analyze from the perspectives of history and history of thoughts the formative process of 'nation states' in modem East Asia and to anatomically articulate the modernity which resides within our "way of viewing things" would be an important step for breakthrough for us confronted with rivalry between globalization on one hand and nationalism and regionalism on the other. 'Nation' having been obtained as self-identity since 19th century is now questioned its effectiveness, but there has been nothing yet that transcends it. It is against this backdrop that conflicts have emerged between globalization and nationalism. Further research needs were inspired to historically and comparatively study how the formative process of such "intellectual wisdom (academic wisdom)" as "philosophy" and "study of history of thoughts" has been intertwined with that of self-image in modem East Asia where the former served as an academic foundation for the latter.
