Research Abstract |
The object of this research is the adaptation of the US version of Life Plan by Russell, in particular the Letter of Intent, which has been translated and studied previously. The research was done by interviewing parents who wrote the Letter of Intent which was revised and adapted to Japan. The parents are grouped as the following: 1.Parents of school-age children with autism in Tokyo metropolitan area 2.Parents of adults with autism in Yokohama area living at home or group home 3.Parents of adults with autism in Mie Prefecture living at home, group home or residential home (All have the backing of Asake Gakuen) From the interviews, we could see that (1) child's age, (2) child's living accommodations gave parents different perspectives. It was decided the detailed review of Russell's book especially the Letter of intent including these interviews would be published by Aikawa Shobo in 2004. Further analysis and research were to be made but the research was not completely finished because of the medical matter of myself. The Autism Study Group still continues its activities. Parents of people with autism are proactive in participation of this study group. This group is also a venue for parents to think and discuss the subject of this research : Life Plan for people with autism after parents' death
