| Research Abstract |
A rubric is defined as a tool for assessing instruction and performance according to predetermined expectations and instruction.
The advantages of using rubrics in assessment are that they :
・allow assessment to be more objective and consistent
・clearly show the students how their work will be evaluated and what is expected
・provide useful feedback regarding the effectiveness of the instructio
・have value to other stakeholders. Anyone (including parents and community membes) seeing an additive rubric and a student score based on that rubric knows what content was mastered by that student.
Section 1 discusses the difference between analytic and holistic scoring rubrics and describes how checklists and benchmarks are different from rubrics.
Section 2 looks at common features and technical requirements of rubrics.
Section 3 introduces how rubrics are used in many different ways in Middle school classrooms from the MiddleWeb Listserv( http://www.middleweb.com/).
Section 4, focusing on the International Baccalaureate programs, covers the Personal Project Assessment Criteria and Performance Criteria of Creativity, Action, Service(CAS).
Section 5 describes rubric resources available through the Internet.
