Research Abstract |
This report consists of five parts. The first part titled "Issue and Significance of the Subject, and Obtain of the Research" contains critical verification of the previous researches as well as theoretical research and methodology of this subject. The second part "The Christian Minority Society of Palestine in the Modern Period" is a monograph examined the demographic distribution and the denominational formation of Christian population in Palestine, especially Jerusalem and its environs, based on the registers of the poll-tax recorded by the Ottoman authorities. I can elucidate in this paper a phenomenon of the centralization of the Christian population to Jerusalem and changes of denominational distribution as result of their migration under the Ottoman rule. This paper also discusses the actual conditions of the Christian minority in Israel/Parestine area in the present time and attempts a comparative study of the conditions of the Christian communities in Palestine betwwn the sixteenth-seventeenth century and the recent time. The third part "The Christian Society of Palestine in the Early Islamic Period" discusses the social and political condition of the Christian majority in the early Islamic period. It contains a study about Christian society in pre-Islamic times and investigation of political and social situation of Christian society of Palestine. The fourth part summarizes the history of the eastern Churches in the Middle East. It is added as a reference for the comparative study about the change of the Christian society and Islamization with other places in the Middle East. The fifth part is a list of sources of history of Palestine in pre-modern times, which can be used for the concerned subject.
