Research Abstract |
I have collected materials and analyzed the research topic as indicated in the original research plan. In the academic year of 2001, I explored processes in which several elements such as beauties drawn in the calendars of the 1930s, peasant arts and Socialist Realism were absorbed into the Maoist Model. In the academic year of 2002, I revealed the characteristics of the Maoist Model, and defined how it was utilized and transformed in modern art. *** academic year 2001, 1 have published the outcome of the researches on "South Korea Gwangju Biennale 2000" (for which I co-researched with Shiseido Gallery, Mito Art Museum and NTT Inter-Communication Center), and on modern art in Beijing. Also, in the academic years of 2002 and 2003, could consult, copy and collect the following materials at the library of the Institute of Literature, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, at the University of Beijing : before the Foundation, graphic magazines such as Illustrated Times, Ladies' Pictorial ; and after the Foundation, graphic magazines such as Chinese Ladies, Hygiene of Mother and Child, Liberation Army's Pictorial, The Soviet Union, Soviet Women. It has been confirmed through the available images that a "modern woman" depicted in the 1930s city culture lost its femininity and was transformed into a masculinized "iron daughter" in the Maoist Model. I have also collected and sorted out the books, articles and visual materials (VCD/DVD/CD) on the Maoist Model. My research so far executed is, however, of a fundamental nature and I shall need to research widely and also need to look at it in detail. My next theme is, therefore, to capture the image of women in the post-1930s period and to write a historical account of women culture. This will reveal the changes in political and economic system, and the transformation of the mass consciousness, in the period mentioned above.
