Research Abstract

In this basic study, I read the literature of local dramas, local documents, the books which persuade people doing good, and conducted the field survey of Pao kung Temple, as a result I could put my past all studies in order as below.
The posterity people created the tales of Pao kung who protected people from the evil doing of those in power at North Sung dynasty by narrative and drama, and remembered his achievement. The tales describe the resolute character of Pao kung in his unique appearance, and the tales of Pao kung that he helped the weak and crushes the unjust increased later, people erected his temple and worshiped him as a god. Then Pao kung lives in the heart of people as ever.
People expect the resourceful person who has supernatural power and moves heaven and earth releases them. They love the stories with types of faithful wife, dutiful son, successful student and Pao kung takes important role of aiding hero or heroin in these stories. The tales of Pao kung were created on a large scale later, the novel Lung-tu kung-an , the works of local dramas, etc., were handed down to now. Especially Shi Yu kun's narrative Lung-tu kung-an was very prevalent by adding chivalrous man in the tale at that time, Pao kung was accompanied with four bodyguards and executed the villains by three copper scaffolds in this story. Then in all of Pao kung temple, people humbly worship these four bodyguards and three copper scaffolds with Pao kung. Some reports informed the ritual of Pao kung already was stopped by the great proletarian culture revolution, but today the freedom of relief was officially recognized, and it rather tended to restore at this time.
