Research Abstract |
In this project, I tried to investigate the possible connections between William Fsulkenr and other writers and film producers, such as Guy Endore., Alejo Carpentier and Sergei Eisenstein, who were actively publishing and producing in this 1930s and 1940s; especially, I looked into the close relationship between Faulkner's typescript writing and Guy Endore's works. Endore specialized in European history and language, and his 1933 best-seller, The Werewolf In Paris, focuses on the historical event in France, He also published Babouk in response to the American Marines withdrawal from Haiti and the massacre in 1929. In order to clarify the influence from Endore on Faulkner, I did research into William Faulkner's unpublished typescripts, "Revolt in the Earth" and "Dreadful Hollow," which were written, presumably, in the 1940s. (Both of these typescripts are not allowed to quote without permission.)
