Research Abstract |
The effects of absorbing plate length, concentration of LiBr aqueous solution, and configuration of an absorbing plate have been experimentally investigated on the enhancement of steam absorption into a LiBr aqueous solution by using a downward facing plate, which method the head investigator developed previously, to clarify the optimum conditions and high performing method of the enhancement of absorption. The experiment has been conducted using a finned absorbing plate with fins 1 mm high and 1 mm wide. The groove width varies as 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm, 7 mm and 10 mm. The plate width is 50 mm, and the length varies as 50 mm, 180 mm and 250 mm. 1. The Effects of Absorbing Plate Length The enhancement of absorption by using a downward facing plate grows greater as the absorption plate becomes long. This is because the absorbed water film becomes thick to deteriorate absorption with increasing absorbing plate length, when the enhancement mechanism of absorption does not work. 2. The Effects of Concentration of LiBr Aqueous Solution The degree of enhancement of absorption by using a downward facing plate does not differ greatly between 30wt% and 60wt% LiBr solutions. When the concentration of LiBr solution increases, growing density difference between the solution and water counterworks with increasing viscosity for the generation of free convection in the liquid film. 3. The Effects of Configuration of an Absorbing Plate The finned plate having 5 mm groove width shows the greatest enhancement of absorption in the present experiment. Narrow width of the groove makes viscosity effects at the side surface of the fin serious in the whole liquid film, while wide width of that causes non-uniform thickness of the liquid film to deteriorate the generation of free convection at the center of the groove.
