Research Abstract

Results obtained in this project are as follows.
(1) From the simulation results performed on the one-machine connected to an infinite bus model system, it is concluded that the effect of SFCLs, in which two SFCL devices are connected in parallel, on the enhancement of transient stability is significant also in the case of unsuccessful reclosing. In addition, SFCLs may make it possible to extend the dead time of circuit breakers so that the possibility of unsuccessful reclosing becomes lower.
(2) From the simulation results performed on the two-machines connected to an infinite bus (9 nodes) model system, it is concluded that the fault currents can be limited by SFCLs with shunt resistance value greater than 0.6 pu, the power system transient stability can be enhanced effectively by SFCLs with shunt resistance value of 1.1 pu, and that the turbine shaft torsional torque oscillations can be suppressed effectively by SFCLs with shunt resistance value of 0.8 through 1.1 pu. (3) From the simulation results performed on the JIEE WEST 10 Machines model system, it is concluded that the fault currents can be limited by SFCLs with shunt resistance value greater than 0.6 pu, and that the power system transient stability can be enhanced effectively by SFCLs with shunt resistance value of 1.1 through 2.0 pu. Therefore it may be considered that the effective value of shunt resistance in SFCLs for the JIEE WEST 10 Machines model system is from 1.1 through 2.0 pu.
(4) Quantitative evaluation method of transient stability and determination method of optimal reclosing time for circuit breakers in multi-machine power system are studied by using 3 model systems; i.e., one-machine connected to an infinite bus model system, two-machines connected to an infinite bus (9 nodes) model system, and JIEE WEST 10 Machines model system. As a result, it is concluded that the transient stability of multi-machine power system can be evaluated by using the summation of kinetic energy of each generator, and that the moment at which the total kinetic energy becomes minimum is almost optimal for reclosing from a point of view of stability enhancement.
