Research Abstract

This research project titled "Development of Linear Synchronous Motor for High Speed Conveyance with Field Flux Control Function" has been carried out from 2001 to 2002 in faculty of engineering, Nagasaki University. The aim of this project is to develop a new type linear synchronous motor (LSM). The motor is based on half-wave rectified brushless excitation. As the field flux is controllable by varying armature current, field weakening operation is possible in high speed region.
Principal results obtained by this research are as follows ;
1. The experimental machine is designed and built. The 12 poles and 2 m long armature is settled on the ground. The armature winding is conventional 3-phase windings. The suspended mover has 4 poles field windings short circuited with a diode.
2. Drive system is designed and built. The IGBT inverter produces 3-phase currents with the mover position, in which torque current component and excitation current component are superimposed.
3. It is confirmed experimentally that the new LSM reciprocates as instructed. Fundamental performances are measured, for examples inductance distribution, current wave form, thrust.
4. Optimization of mover configuration is carried out using FEM. The objective function is thrust ripple caused by detent force and vertical force (attractive force). Tow type configuration, unsymmetrical one and divided into two parts one, are proposed for minimizing both objectives.
