Research Abstract |
In this research project, a mixing characteristics under variable input condition was studied for a temperature-stratified thermal storage tank consisting several tanks connected in series and a prediction method of stored heat in tank was presented in order to realize the optimum operation of this thermal storage tank by using computer simulation. In the first year, an experimental set-up was prepared by connecting several divided water tanks in series and the basic mixing characteristics was studied under various input condition of constant flow rate and input temperature, and some mathematical models ware presented for the mixing characteristics, the connecting holes through tank partition and the inlet/outlet. In the second year, a control system was prepared and it can arbitrarily change flow rate and input temperature into thermal storage water tank by personal computer, and a mixing model which can be applied to the variable input condition was developed from experimental studies and was verified its prediction performance of transient temperature response and stored heat in tank by using measured data in an actual operated thermal storage system. In the last year, a series of experiment was conducted under the condition in which water input was restarted after interrupting once, and the mixing model for variable input condition was examined in the restart condition. And CFD simulation was conducted to study flow pattern in the storage tank.
