Research Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the nutritional and health condition of elder persons those are living in welfare facilities and living alone. The elder persons living in welfare facilities could select two or three kind of menus at lunch. The elder persons living alone could receive lunch service. On the other hand, obesity caused life-style-diseases. In this study, the body fat percentage of elder persons also measured. Furthermore, the suppressive effect on food intake by histidine-rich protein for elder person was investigated.
The numbers of participants of nutrition survey and body fats measurement were 77 and 46, respectively. A questionnaire survey was conducted for the participants. Body fat percentage was measured by impedance methods.
The nutritional conditions of elder persons living in welfare facilities were satisfactory. This result seemed to be caused by the selection menu at lunch. The nutritional conditions of elder persons living alone were also satisfactory. This result seemed to be caused by lunch service. The BMI data of elder persons were almost normal. But, the body fat percentages were high. The suppressive effect on food intake by orally administration of histidine-rich protein was not observed. But, there was a significant negative correlation between the BMI and the histidine-rich protein intake.
