Research Abstract |
Huge amounts of isotropic data with a thickness of 0.5 or 1.0 mm are generated by Multislice CT. Current film-based reading systems are not suitable for interpreting the large amounts of data. So, it is necessary to develop new real-time volume visualizing system for multislice CT. Real-time isotropic MPR at any directions is extremely required in clinical use. Using MPR/MIP using isotropic data, accurate diagnosis is possible without the presence of a partial volume effect. Our system using general-purpose Windows-based computer and DICOM freeware/low price software (Exa Vision ; ZIO) enables us to effectively utilize the volume data acquired using multislice CT in routine clinical diagnosis. The amount of data generated is a massive 10,000 to 20,000 slices each day in a 4-row multislice CT, corresponding to 1.2-2.4TB/year. Images are transferred from MSCT to the server and from server to the reading workstation at a rate of 5-6 slices/sec, which rate is not so high. Our system has several problems in routine diagnosis.
