Research Abstract |
The study, entitled "Analysis of retinal function using P3-and derived P2-models and ON/OFF ERG responses", tried to analyze retinal function in normal controls and patients with various ophthalmological diseases using rod and cone a-wave(P3) models, derived P2 model, and ON/OFF ERG responses to long flash stimulation. At first we recorded conventional(scotopic and photopic) ERGs and ON/OFF responses to 200 msec flash stimulation in 30 normal volunteers, and measured the normal values of amplitudes and peak latencies from the wave components (a-,b-,d-, OP-waves, and so on). After that, we calculated the parameters(Rm,S,td,etc) of the P3-and derived P2-models in normal controls. The values from various patients with ophthalmological disease(ex.retinitis pigmentosa, cone dystrophy, congenital retinoschisis, Oguchi disease, vitamin A deficiency, central retinal vein occlusion) were compared with those from normal controls. Other results of ophthalmological examinations, including visual acuity, visual field, ocular Hindus, dark adaptation curves, gene analysis, were also analyzed in the patients. It would be beneficial for patients to see the precise retinal function objectively from several examinations. New ERG methods to estimate retinal function shown in this study would be used in gene therapy and retinal transplantation in retinal degeneration in the near future.
