Research Abstract

It is said that the two teams in a game play a fierce battle in narrow area in the modern soccer. The reason of this might be because the teams play with keeping compact condition through a game. It is said that, in a high level game, 'the game proceeds with keeping the length between the FW line and the DF line about 30m'. On the other hand, there is an old saying, which says 'The area of a team is wide when it attacks, while it is narrow when it defenses'. It is not clear which of these sayings is true. It is not clear whether a game proceeds with the width being kept the same or with the width being changed I* relation with the period of offence and defense. But there is one thing clear so far : Players play in more crowded area in the modern soccer than in the soccer of the earlier time. In addition, the area is narrower.
Results
1) The saying 'The area of a team is wide when it attacks, while it is narrow when it defenses' was found to be true in the futsal game.
2) The saying 'The area of a team is wide when it attacks, while it is narrow when it defenses' was found to be true in soccer as well. Consequently, th* team that attacked for longer time did not keep the area of the team compact compared to the opponent team. As for the area of the teams, length an width were positively related. The longer the length was, the wider the width was.
3) The condition of compactness of each team was highly related to the distance between the teams.
