Research Abstract |
A middleware "Unite" for multi-lingual processing has been developed. Unite is implemented in Java language with the Unicode character code set, and runs on any platform which support Java language, i.e. on every computers available in market. We have developed a multi-lingual processing framework "System 1". Though it covers almost all of necessary functions of multi-lingual processing, it runs only in an environment on Unix and X-window. Unite is the system intended to provide the functions of the System 1 on every computers. Unite is at the stage of prototyping and Mongolian language is chosen as the test case. An applet has been developed as an application of Unite : a simple text editor to handle document which contains Japanese and Mongolian sentences. As an input method, we adopt a Romanization of Mongolian language. We will provide a personalization feature on this applet to define ones own Romanization.
