Research Abstract |
Radicicol and geldanamycin, Hsp9O-binding antibiotics, potentiate neurite growth and survival of cultured sensory neurons from chick embryo. They did not exhibit trophic effects on the sensory neurons from embryonic and adult rats and mice. We show that the antibiotics induced the outgrowth of neurites in NG108-15 cells and N2A cells. Treatment of cells with these drugs decreased levels of Raf1,ERK1/2 and phosphorylated ERK1/2 time-dependently. Levels of Akt1 and CDK4 were slightly decreased. The neurite growth by the drugs was blocked by actynomycin D. The neurite growth of NG108-15 cells Geld might be due to a change in the synthesis of some specific protein(s).
